From a theoretical point of view , you make sense but from a practical and realistic point of view your theory is but a dream that will not be realized.

If I make sense, then eventually my dream will be realized. That is the power of common sense. There is no getting away from it. It covers you coming and going. You either yield to it, or it will take you down.

The peace we've had with Egypt has been a cold peace at best. For his own purposes, Mubarak allowed a great deal of anit-Israel and anti-Semitic sentiments to foment. That is in a real peace.

But Gabe, as far as I'm concerned, what is happening on the streets, even as we speak, is a game changer. What was is not what is, and what will be, will be something else altogether.

There is a real opportunity to make something happen. It will require the efforts of all who stand to benefit. Israel can be one of the beneficiaries, but so far, she has not taken the initiative. She is sitting on the sidelines, hopeing for things to work out. They won't. If we sit back and wait for things to happen, they will, and they will happen to us, in a negative and destructive way.

If, however, we take the initiative, we can orchestrate a new strategic reality in the Middle East, and a revitalization of the entire region, with good paying jobs, with moderate candidates, and with requisite institutions which will support freedom and democracy.

It will take a lot of imagination, and even more hard work. And as you suggest, there are no guarantees. But I firmly believe that Israel has the capactiy to undertake such a transformation, and I would go further in saying that only Israel is in a position to make something happen along these lines.

To my mind, Israel is not the problem in the Middle East. She is the solution for the Middle East, but only if she chooses to assume that role.

I enjoy these talks we've had, and I hope that you continue to challenge me at every turn. It helps me get the word out, and believe me when I tell you that I will do what I can to do just that.

Israel cannot in any way, shape or form change what is going on in the Middle East. Nothing has changed in Egypt and if it does change it may be for the worse and not the better. If you get the Muslim Brotherhood as part of the government and Israel has to invest in defending its border with both Egypt and Hamastan to a greater extent than there cannot nor will there be any peace with the Palestinians for very obvious reasons. It is one thing to have a :friendly" cold peace as compared to a uncertain cold peace or perhaps even a peace where Egypt supports the Hamas in Gaza.

I have not seen anything coming out of Egypt that would make me feel any better or more optimistic.

You can continue trying, but based on history and the actions of the people in the Middle East, you will be greatly disappointed.

I am seeing a lot of optimism from you without any solid proof, other than saying it will happen.
If it does happen I will be the most shocked person together with millions of others.

I think that we have milked this horse for all that we can and perhaps in 6-12 months we can revisit and see who is the realist and who is the dreamer. I am prepared to make a small wager that you will come out on the wrong side of this wager.
