Economy, crises in focus as Obama heads to Germany

U.S. President Barrack Obama takes part in a Town Hall meeting at Lindley Hall in London
By Roberta Rampton LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama is set to visit Hanover, Germany on Sunday to hold talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, one of his closest allies in dealing with a shaky global economy and security crises in the Middle East and Ukraine. It will be the last stop on a six-day foreign journey where Obama has sought to shore up U.S. alliances he views as key to grow trade, defeat Islamic State militants, and offset Russian aggression in Ukraine and Syria. Obama, who is in the last nine months of his presidential term, spent three days in London where he urged Britons to remain part of the European Union in a June referendum, a vote that could send shockwaves through the economy.

Mission Statement

We want people the world over to start thinking about the idea of using An Ideology of Common Sense along with Economic Incentives to sell A Vision of Hope - A Vision of Peace, Prosperity, and Freedom - on the Arab street, in the Muslim world, and in the world as a whole. Once enough people buy into the idea, we want them to take steps to implement the idea, and to show that a Vision of Hope could be given substance on the ground if people choose to make it so.

Different people will help to implement the vision in different ways. A consortium of businesspeople, for example, could choose to create an industrial zone in the West Bank, or to build a hotel on the Gaza coast. A wealthy financier could begin to empower Arab women by lending them money to start their own businesses. A media consultant could help design a media campaign that will be used to displace an ideology of intolerance with a Vision of Hope.

A team of economists and money managers could help to manage and grow a Fund for Economic Development in the Middle East. Business leaders, economists, and political leaders, both here and in the Middle East, could help to design and implement a whole host of projects which are hand picked to resonate with hope, and which symbolically transmit the message, "We stand ready to invest in you, if you are ready to invest in yourselves." These projects will not be ends in themselves, but will rather be beacons of hope for all to see, and for all to follow.

As a Vision of Hope begins to take root, we would expect that people would be better conditioned to negotiate their differences, and to begin the painful process of brokering the peace. A Vision of Hope, if implemented, will condition people for peace. We can avert conflict, by engendering consensus. Instead of jumping to the peace table before the time is right, and before people are ready to make the painful concessions for peace, and before people are prepared to trust one another, why not pave the way to peace by first Selling a Vision of Hope?

Speaking to one another with common sense and with a sense of personal dignity, putting some serious money on the table and giving everyone on earth a place at the table - a stake in his or her future, and using these to sell a Vision of Hope, will go a long way to neutralize the hate and to allow people to imagine the possibility of peace and to work toward that end.
